I once met a Catholic man who was coming here to visit from another country. The Catholic faith is worldwide, so it is constantly a lot of fun and easily interesting to meet people from other parts of the world who practice this. This certain person was from the caribbean, which as you are aware, is quite poor. The first night he came to the US, he stayed in a dormitory that has rooms with a beds, a dresser, and an overhead light. He stayed awake all night staring at the light and thanking God for the blessing of electricity. This is easily surprising for everyone in our country. The people from here don’t give a thought about electricity or HVAC systems. We tend to use lights and cooling systems all morning, every morning. Most people and I use cooling systems in the Summer and gas oil furnaces in the Wintertime. The people here, like to keep track of indoor air quality through the use of air filters and it is common to have ductwork serviced. The people from this country are easily blessed to be able to keep warm by utilizing heating and radiant floors in the cold weeks, and more lives have been saved from heat stroke with the official use of cooling systems throughout the cold months. It sporadically takes stories like the one of the guy from the caribbean make us remember to be thankful for what every one of us have. In his country and more around the world, millions of people do not have access to electricity, toilets, water, or air conditioners. I am so fortunate to have the current conveniences like central heating and cooling systems and lights that stay on all night if I so choose.
